Why was I buying cauliflower in the middle of May? Yes, they were on sale at huge savings, but the purist in me felt I was rushing the season. What would I do with these unblemished, pearly white beauties? I simply pretended it was summer!
For a window shopping experience unlike any other in Paris, take a walk on rue Lepic in Montmartre. Since its earliest days, this street has provided our neighborhood with meats, cheese, fish and produce from colorful open-air stalls. Today, many additional retailers and restaurants vie for a piece of the action. Lokking for train tickets to Nice? a box of Belgian chocolate? a vintage Moulin Rouge poster? a simple waste basket? A trip to Costco could never be this much fun.
George and I spent a totally relaxing two days with our friends at Chateau de Sannat in the Limousin over the weekend. Yes, our hosts were a count and countess, but the resemblance to Downton Abbey ends there. The disarmingly warm and generous hospitality of owners Claude and Jacques de Ste. Croix belies the aristocratic bearing of the registered landmark with its formal gardens and many outbuildings.
